August 28, 2021 is the one people measure from
The National Weather Service logged tennis-ball hail — two and a half inches — south of US 12 that night, and it was driven hard. We were still replacing roofs off that storm two years later, and we still find houses that were never looked at, because the damage sits on the north and east slopes where it doesn’t show from the street. Late July that year had already put significant hail down. Then the May 12 and July 5, 2022 derechos came through and took the weakened material with them.
