Gutters

# Gutters that keep the water out of your basement

No seams to split. Pitched to drain.

No seams to split, sized for the rain that actually falls here, hung on hidden hangers, and pitched so the water leaves rather than sitting in the run.

Gutters are the cheapest part of your exterior and the one most capable of causing an expensive problem. Water that comes off a roof and lands against a foundation doesn’t stop being a problem — it becomes a wet basement, a cracked footing, or ice that jacks the walk up every spring.

We roll seamless gutter on site from a coil, so the only joints on your house are at the corners and the outlets. Sectional gutter from a big-box store has a joint every ten feet, and every one of those is a future leak.

Rolled in your driveway One continuous length, cut to your house — no seam every ten feet waiting to split.

## What usually goes wrong with gutters

Gutters are the cheapest part of your exterior and the part most able to cause an expensive problem somewhere else. These are the symptoms worth acting on.

- ### Water sheeting over the front edge in a downpour

Three usual causes: debris blocking the run, the gutter is undersized for the roof area feeding it, or it was pitched wrong so water sits instead of moving. The third one is an install problem and no amount of cleaning fixes it.

- ### The gutter is sagging or pulling away from the fascia

Standing water and wet debris are heavy, and the old spike-and-ferrule fasteners work loose under that weight — then each freeze widens the gap. Hidden hangers screwed into the fascia hold where spikes don’t.

- ### Dirty vertical stripes on the siding under the gutter

Overflow running down the wall instead of through the downspout. The stain is cosmetic; what’s behind it isn’t, because that water is getting in behind the siding at the same time.

- ### A wet basement, or a crack in the footing Don’t wait on this one

Usually downspouts dumping straight down at the foundation instead of carrying water away from it. This is the single most expensive thing a hundred dollars of downspout extension prevents.

- ### Peeling paint or soft wood on the fascia board

Water sitting behind the gutter rather than in it — typically a failed back seam or a gutter hung without proper apron flashing. Left alone it rots the board the gutter is attached to, so you end up paying for carpentry and gutters.

- ### A solid ridge of ice in the gutter run all winter

This is an attic heat and insulation problem showing up at the gutter line, not a gutter defect. Guards and heat cable manage the symptom; sealing and insulating the attic addresses the cause.

No surprises

## What we install

Straightforward work, but the details decide whether it works in a real downpour.

- ### Seamless aluminum, rolled on site

One continuous piece per run. 5" K-style for most houses, 6" where the roof area or the pitch demands it — and we size it rather than defaulting.

- ### Hidden hangers, screwed

Screwed into the fascia every two feet or less. Not spike-and-ferrule, which works loose every freeze-thaw cycle until the gutter sags and holds water.

- ### Correct pitch

Enough fall to drain, not so much that you can see it from the street. Standing water in a gutter is what turns into an ice block in January.

- ### Downspouts sized and placed

Enough of them, in the right places, discharging far enough from the foundation to matter. Extensions or underground drainage where the grade needs it.

- ### Leaf guards

Optional, and we’ll tell you honestly whether your tree cover justifies the cost. Under mature oaks and cottonwoods, yes. On an open lot, usually not.

- ### Color matching

Matched to your fascia, trim or roof — your call. Around thirty stock colors.

Your options

## Sizes and options

### 5" K-style

Standard

The standard, and right for most houses. Handles typical roof areas and rainfall, and the profile suits most trim.

### 6" K-style

For big roofs

About 40% more capacity. What we specify on steep pitches, large roof areas, and any house that has overflowed before. The upcharge is small.

### Half-round

Traditional profile, usually on older or architecturally specific houses. Costs more; worth it when the house asks for it.

### Leaf guards

Mesh or reverse-curve. Nothing is genuinely "no maintenance ever" and anyone saying otherwise is selling. A good guard turns cleaning from twice a year into once every few years.

How it goes

## Start to finish, with nobody chasing you

1. 1

   ### Measure and quote

Usually same visit as a roof or siding estimate. Free either way.

2. 2

   ### Color and size

We size the run to your roof area and you pick a color off the chart.

3. 3

   ### Install

Most houses are a single day. Old gutter comes down and goes with us.

4. 4

   ### Water test

We run water through it and watch where it goes before we call it finished.

### How long it takes

- Estimate

  Same day to 48 hours

- Install

  Usually one day

- With a roof replacement

Same visit, right after the roof

### Warranty

Manufacturer warranty on the aluminum coil and the finish, plus our workmanship warranty on the install — which on gutters mostly means: if it leaks, sags or overflows, we come back and fix it.

The cheap part that gets expensive

## Gutters are what keep water out of the basement

Water that comes off a roof and lands against a foundation does not just disappear. It becomes a wet basement, a cracked footing, or ice that jacks the front walk every spring.

Sized for the rain that actually falls here, pitched so the water leaves.

## Gutters — straight answers

If the question you have isn’t here, call the number on this page and ask. You’ll get a person who has been on a roof this week.

Should I replace gutters when I replace the roof?

If they are more than about fifteen years old or already sagging, yes — the labor overlaps and you save on a second trip. If they are in good shape, keep them. We’ll say which.

Are leaf guards worth it?

Under heavy tree cover, yes. On an open lot, honestly not. We would rather tell you that than sell you guards you don’t need.

Why do my gutters overflow in heavy rain?

Usually undersized for the roof area, too few downspouts, or a pitch problem. Sometimes just blocked. We can tell which in about ten minutes.

Do gutters stop ice dams?

No — that’s an attic ventilation and insulation problem, and the gutter is just where you notice it. But a gutter full of standing water makes it considerably worse. Fix the ventilation with the roof and the gutter stops being the villain.

## What people said afterwards

★★★★★

> Gunner and his crew just recently shingled my roof and put on new gutters/soffits/fascia. They did a excellent job and didn’t leave a mess (cleaned up wonderfully after themselves). I started looking for some one to do this over a year ago, called several other contractors but no one got back to me. Gunner was great to work with and always returned my calls/texts. He was very helpful and answered all my questions. Thank you!

Mary A Bennett Huron, SD

★★★★★

> I highly recommend these guys! They did two complete exterior remodels for me (siding, roof, soffit, gutters) on a couple of older houses and made them look brand new. They were available to start within a reasonable timeframe and got these big jobs done within a week. Gunner is great to work with and keeps you in the loop along the way. They’re now my first call for our exterior house projects.

Ashley Weisser Aberdeen, SD

★★★★★

> Gary and his team were prompt and friendly. Gary reviewed our storm damage - he is knowledgeable and honest. His team did a great job and left our property clean. I recommend Gary and Radiant Roofing and Siding - in fact, I recommended him to my neighbors.
